God is Mad!

If this video doesn't scare you, then this piece of information might: this video is by the Westboro Baptist Church hate group of Topeka, Kansas. After you see the title of their homepage, I think you'll start wondering about these people and whether their "God is Love." This group of religious wingnuts and haters also enjoys protesting at pop concerts, Kansas City Chiefs football games, the funerals of soldiers and of those who have died of complications from HIV/AIDS.

They also despise Michael Jackson, ironically enough.

More like this

Ah yes, Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church...no, they don't scare me. They're despicable, but hardly dangerous.

In all honesty, I think hate preachers of the Rick Warren school, who hide their hatred behind sweet talk and faux reasonableness are far more of a problem. Phelps is at least up-front with his hatred, and that also makes him a lot less likely to convince anybody - in fact, the net result of his protests might likely be driving people away from Christianity. (And the occasional conspiracy-minded wingnut has been overheard pondering whether Phelps isn't really a liberal 'plant'.)

(Plus, his theology is at least coherent - if every Calvinist was as consistent and logical about it as him, that particular train of Christian thought would never have made it very far out of the station. And I've always liked authentically insane preachers more than the cynical, money-grabbing kind.)

I love how these groups think they know the mind of their god. It brings to mind the phrase "All up in the Kool-Aid and don't knwo the flavor."

They finally admit they have a loony god?

interesting that when he's mad he's 'yours' not 'ours'

Reading the five pillars of Calvinism, the only sensible conclusion do draw is to live life doing whatever the hell you feel like. Nothing you can possibly do will either add to your burden of original sin, or reduce it. God picks who goes to heaven and who to hell by some sort of lottery, and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. Talk about nihilism!

These people are despicable. Christians are even more disgusted at this group for hijacking the message. Just like the KKK, who disgrace the symbol of the cross. Jesus blew everyone's mind when he associated with tax collectors, prostitutes, non-Jews, etc. He never said anything about homosexuality. Bible passages that may seem to, refer to sodomy, a behavior, not a person. This addresses heterosexuals as well. Note that nothing addresses lesbians.
In an interview with Shirley once, it was pointed out that their outrageous behavior made it impossible to take them seriously. It didn't phase her to consider the possibility that God is condemning what they're doing.
I hope the military families who are suing them for inflicting emotional abuse by demonstrating at funerals win their case. It would be perfect if the damages awarded completely bankrupted this organization!
