History Carnival #38

The latest edition of the History Carnival has been posted at Frog In A Well.

Even though I've been on vacation and blogging (not to mention blog traffic) has been light other than reposts, someone actually submitted something I posted, thus keeping someone linking to me in my absence. I hope the lack of activity is due to lots of people being on vacation at the end of August and my relative lack of new material and that things will perk up after Tuesday. In the meantime, I'm taking it easy and counting down the few remaining days of vacation.

In actuality, though, the only reason I didn't post a new piece of insolence today is because I'm busily and happily setting up my new computer, a brand spanking new Mac Pro. (This very well might be worth a more detailed post in itself tomorrow or Sunday--this machine rocks!)

Don't worry, though. Thanks to some crappy weather today and my wife having a "girls night out" with her friend, the new main axe should be fully operational with all necessary (and lots of unnecessary) software by the time I crash tonight. For a geek like me, this is tons of fun.

Politico quotes a Clinton pollster concern-trolling about Barack Obama taking a vacation in Hawaii, the state he grew up in:
To make up for last month's long delay in posting, I'll knock out this month's recap of Forbes blog posts really quickly. Also, I still have Vacation Brain, so writing anything really new isn't in the cards...
Technically, this is my 500th post at Scienceblogs, although I believe that includes a few I wrote but never published. So, 500 within a slight margin of error. Let us now celebrate this arbitrary milestone!!!!! And now, on to the post.
Believe it or not, I happen to be on vacation this week. Fear not, it's a stay-at-home vacation (sometimes the best kind) and therefore my vacation doesn't mean I'll stop blogging. In fact, I consider blogging to be part of my recreation.

Welcome back, Orac. I just set up a new computer, too (PC however, not mac) but still have to load some backed up files to it. Since this weekend is supposed to be so lovely (lol), I'll do it then.

I've been discovering my inner geek..anyone out there who can recommend some good books on learning SAS? I'm using it a lot lately...

Ooo! New Mac!
