Vegas, Baby, Vegas!

I'm pleased to announce that along with PZ Myers and Wendy Northcutt (genius of the Darwin Awards), I'll be heading up the science panel at Yearly Kos, Friday, June 9 in Las Vegas. This is the progressive blogosphere's mega-convention; its theme is "Uniting the Netroots." The keynote speaker will be none other than Harry Reid. The event itself will run for four days (June 8-11) and will be located at the Riviera Hotel in Vegas. Thousands are expected; you should be one of them.

I'm honored and excited to have been invited to speak and to be part of this massive and important event. As I said in the press release announcing the science panel: "When I got the invite from Yearly Kos, I picked up a copy of my book and said to it: 'We're going to Vegas, baby.'"

Well, folks, I'm off to Pasadena tomorrow; the debate with Ron Bailey is Saturday. I may blog more about it here if I need feedback on any particular point as I prep my arguments today and, once I arrive at the hotel in Pasadena, tomorrow. Meanwhile, as thing are likely to be bumpy, here is what…
Well, I've just spent three days writing...the "manuscript" is starting to actually look like something where the scare quotes can be removed around that word....But now I must shift into public speaking mode again. Tomorrow the rent car and I will be heading from Flagstaff slightly northwest to…
When I first decided to go to Las Vegas for YearlyKos, I thought I would just tag along with my husband, who was representing Progress Now. I figured I'd do some shopping, maybe some sightseeing, and definitely some rockhounding along the drive there and back. When I saw a number of science related…
The speakers for the science panel at the Yearly Kos convention have been announced, and they are Chris Mooney, some goofy guy named PZ, and Wendy Northcutt. We're going to Vegas! Since I only drink in moderation, never gamble, and the only showgirl I want to see is my wife (who will be coming…

Harry "Less $ from Abramoff than a couple of the really bad Republicans" Reid? Oh my. Well, I guess it's clear enough that Kos and Co. are getting set to lead us down the same primrose path of lesser-evilism as in 2004. Prepare yourself for "Lt. Clinton, reporting for duty!" What we need here is a new paradigm, and the "left" blogosphere/netsphere (the institutional one, anyway) as exemplified by the likes of Kos and MoveOn is so caught up in the old one that they don't seem to be aware of it. Sigh.
