In theory I should have internet access over the next few days, but there is a possibility that I won't, in which case I just want to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving. Remember to appreciate the derived dinosaurian anatomy of your gobbler, especially the wishbone. Indeed, this is the time of year where paleontologists get to lecture everyone at the dinner table while the rest of the family rolls their eyes, but it's good to stop for a moment and remember that more than 65 million years ago the relatives of the turkey might very well consider us a suitable dinner ("Will someone pass the multituberculate pudding?").

It seems that I am really having some strange but memorable Thanksgiving holidays in NYC. For example, since I arrived in NYC, I spent my first three Thanksgivings at a local natural history museum (whose name I am not allowed to mention on my blog) where I was employed as a…
Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday with a regrettable meat. Turkey is the sawdust of protein, a big bird with a bad breast-to-leg ratio, which means that you have to dry out the breast before you can fully cook the leg. (And yes, I've tried every foil trick in the book.)
But why is turkey so dry?…
My whole family is out of the country this year, so my wife is making her mom's "famous" turkey-day meatloaf. No wishbones, I'm afraid, but if there are any anatomical features of note left in the ground beef, I'll be sure to point them out. :-) Happy Thanksgiving, Brian!
Ahh...annual dinosaur dissection day. May all our theropods be more appetizing than this poor fella:
