Cute Baby Xenarthrans

It's Valentine's day, so I'm allowed to put up some videos of excessively cute baby animals. I wouldn't imagine that a baby two-toed sloth (Choloepus sp.) would be at the top of anyone's list, but I'll let you decide for yourself;

The giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) is one of my most favorite of all animals, and even though the "baby" in this clip is a little old, mothers carry their offspring piggyback for some time;

The Giant Anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) is one of my all-time favorite animals, and anytime I get to see one up close is a treat. Perhaps my affinity to them stems from the fact that they are simply so bizarre, the long tubular jaw, huge claws, and bushy tail making these animals seem like…
I really like sloths, but one of their recently discovered habits might make me like them a little bit less... As recently reported by Eckhard Heymann and colleagues, Linnaeus's two-toed sloths Choloepus didactylus at the Estación Biológica Quebrada Blanco in north-eastern Peru have developed…
Sloths. Were there predatory sloths? Sloths that lived in the sea? Sloths that dug immense tunnels? Sloths on Antarctica? Sloths so keen to get to the US of A that they didn't wait for the land bridge, but swam the way instead? Well, let's see... Today I was asked a question about sloths. Sloths…
This could be an opportunity to say something really smart and interesting, or it could be an excuse for silliness. I leave you, my wise readers, to decide... UPDATE: for those struggling to interpret the sloths, the image below should help. A shot of the sloths just a few moments later is shown…

Well, the two (and three)-toed sloth is my absolute favorite extant animal. So, yup, it's cute.

I.WANT.ONE.

Happy V Day to you and Tracey!

The baby sloth is indeed adorable. We want one too.

That sloth video was taken at the Aviarios del Caribe sloth rescue center and sanctuary in Costa Rica. There are videos similar to it all over YouTube and all are equally adorable. They rescue sloths that have been injured by cars or falling trees or whose mothers have been killed by same. A great organization.

I want to build a "tree" in my living room and have a sloth just hangin' out up there. And when people visit, I'd just be like, "yeah, that's my sloth. He doesn't do much."

That's my dream.

Er...are you absolutely sure that the anteater are mama and baby, and not, say, less-than-perfectly-receptive female and horny male?
