It's never too early to plan for the next SVP meeting

Amanda is already far more prepared than I am for the next Society of Vertebrate Paleontology meeting that will be held in Cleveland, Ohio this coming October. I'm hoping to be there, but somehow I get the feeling that my own experience is going to be a relatively last-minute mad dash to get everything together (if I'm able to scrounge enough money to get me there and back to begin with). I'm pretty optimistic that I'll make it, although I'm sure I'll feel like an extremely little fish in a pond filled with Dunkleosteus.

In all the chaos of having interrupted internet and lots of stormy weather, I never posted a January Anyway Project Update - oops, sorry! So here's an early February one, and I'll try and do one in late Feb. as well, because, of course, I'll definitely be accomplishing double in this short month…
Actually, it isn't all that slow, because a decade ago, all of this would have been largely unthinkable. The problem is that we don't see the gradual decline and fall - we are only vaguely aware that some things aren't quite what they used to be, and our progressive narrative tells us that they…
Note: I'm off to DC for ASPO-USA's annual spring board meeting. The blog will be quiet. I leave you with one of my all-time favorite re-runs, lightly updated to reflect the ongoing disconnect between dream and reality ;-). But what would life be without fantasy? I find it helpful to reflect on…
I've found myself in the weird position of giving career advice twice in the last week and a half. Once was to a former student, which I sort of understand, while the second time was a grad student in my former research group, who I've never met. I still don't really feel qualified to offer useful…

Yup, I've gotta get a-movin' on this as well. I'm going to try and talk Scott into saving his money and coming with me. We'll be the only two Alaskans there! :-) Also, it would be nice to have a roommate to share costs with.

I really want to see both of you there! Then we can be little fish together...although, to be honest, the amount of stuff you guys know impresses me...I think I may be a tiny fish.

Brian, your interview published on "A Blog Around the Clock" was so good that I wish SVP would put you on some sort of panel about blogging. They probably aren't adding any new events to the program at this point though, and I'm not someone who can suggest it to them.
