Extreme Mammals!

This coming Saturday the American Museum of Natural History is going to lift the veil on their new temporary exhibition Extreme Mammals, and I was fortunate enough to get an invitation to the blogger preview being held the day before. This coming Friday from about 4 to 5:30 PM I'll be wandering around the new exhibit, taking photos and (hopefully) blogging about it right from the scene. Expect lots of pictures of Ambulocetus, Uintatherium, and other fossil beasts that evening.

If you can't make it to NYC during the run of the exhibit, though, you can check out a lot of the materials being presented on the Extreme Mammals homepage and some behind the scenes shots on Flickr. It all looks pretty exciting, but tune back in on Friday for my own take on this new exhibition.

Yesterday the New York Times posted a review of the AMNH's new "Extreme Mammals" exhibition. The review pays more attention is paid to the evolutionary themes of the exhibit than to what is in it, but I will be bringing you a more detailed look at the displays during a special blogger preview early…

I'm 'extremely' jealous - this looks like it'll be a great exhibit. The Coryphodon alone looks well worth the price of admission. Any word on how long the show will run?

Looking forward to your review!

Did they just send out invites to NY area bloggers? I'm a science blogger myself, and happen to be in NYC this weekend and would love to go to the blogger preview. Especially since the exhibit is a joint production with the Canadian Museum of Nature here in Ottawa.

It would seem so, Kamel. I had to ask for an invite myself. I will forward you the contact information.

Thanks Brian! I sent an email through the museum 'Contact Us' page, but if you have more specific contact information, that would be awesome. If not, I'll just have to go on Saturday with the rest of the public :)

This looks awesome. Unfortunately, not only am I on the other side of the continent, I'm about to fly farther away - to Asia. Have fun! I'm looking forward to the photos.
