I Want This Job

What's truly terrifying about the Bush phenomenon--at this point, it really can't be called a presidency like any other--is that the 36-40% that think he's doing a good job can vote and own firearms. Seriously, my conception--and I would argue most liberals, moderates, and some conservatives--of what a president should do fundamentally differs from the diehard Bush base. Take it away Jon Stewart (the part at 2:30 is brlliant):

Chris Mooney has has a new article in The American Prospect about the Republican war on expertise. There are a lot of interesting nuggets, but Chris somehow manages to avoid making the really obvious point. First, let's set the tone: Increasingly, the parties are divided over expertise--with…
Don't Think of a Maverick! Could the Obama Campaign Be Improved?: In 1980, Richard Wirthlin -- Ronald Reagan's chief strategist -- made a fateful discovery. In his first poll he discovered that most people didn't like Reagan's positions on the issues, but nevertheless wanted to vote for Reagan. The…
I wasn't going to read Sam Harris's new book, Letter to a Christian Nation because I thought I wouldn't learn anything and it wouldn't change my mind. I've got a huge stack of books to read. This wouldn't be at the top. But I picked it up idly at the bookstore this afternoon and was hooked from the…
Hmmm, after a whole week of fantastic traffic, it has suddenly gone down through the floor today, so I better act quickly and post something really provocative - an old anti-Libertarian screed that is bound to attract trolls (and traffic).... Much of the stuff on this blog is based on the bimodal…

Love it - love the bit at 2:30 that you pointed out, and loved the sentiment at the very end. JS is so funny, and sooooo good at what he does. Thanks for posting the clip!

You know, this is all amusing, but you are simply using science as a front for your political views.

"Science" blog my ass.

Reminds me of the Kansas Citizens for Science people claiming to be all concerned about science education.

We have observed them at public events, talked to them, and know what their agenda is.

"Science" my as.

'Reasonable' Kansan,

So what is my agenda? (I've tried to keep it TOP SEKRIT--I guess I failed...sniffle)

By the way, you are simply using religion as a front for your political agenda. We have observed you at your churches, talked to you, and know what your agenda is.

HEY MIKE, REASONABLE KANSAN IS RIGHT! YOU WANNA KNOW WHY BEING A SCIENTIST COMPLETELY DISQUALIFIES YOU FROM HOLDING POLITICAL BELIEFS? BECAUSE FUCK YOU, THAT'S WHY!

The troglodytes (e.g. Anti-Mike) are so ... predictable. Sigh.

The troglodytes (e.g. Anti-Mike) are so ... predictable. Sigh.

That was a parody of mine (a continuing gimmick I do for fun on this site), but I understand the confusion. Poe's law is fast becomming applicable to hardcore conservatism too.

Reasonable Kansan, as well as his friends, most family, and entire congregation, need to do THEIR job, and the only job at which they can claim competance: cowpie imitation. Then we can free up authentic cow turds for use as oil alternatives.
