A couple of weeks ago, Jonah Lehrer wrote about the Decline Effect, where the support for a scientific claim often tends to decrease or even disappear over time (ZOMG! TEH SCIENTISMZ R FALSE!).
One of the things I can't stand about non-open access publishers is that federally-funded scientific results (federally subsidized in multiple ways) are locked behind a publisher's for-profit fire

You mean the blog acted the evil henchman, willing to follow nefarious orders that people of integrity had refused to do?

It's good to remember the original meaning of the term.
