I started a thread on the old Omni Brain asking what the coolest name in science was. These are a few we came up with:
James Intrilligator (Psychology - vision)
Ray Jackendoff (Psychology - language)
Dr Martin S. Angst (Neuroscience - Pain)
Dr Jules Angst (Psychiatry)

After a bit of a hiatus, ScienceBlogger interviews are back! And today, in honor of his one-year blogging anniversary, we feature Steve Higgins of Omni Brain.
What's your name?
James Stephen Higgins, but that James name is one of those crazy family things where every first-born male gets the name…
I'm quickly learning that these webmagazines really don't like my book. This review, however, is actually rather thoughtful. Daniel Engber of Slate begins by pointing out that neuroscientists are constantly quoting Proust:
My career as a grad student in neuroscience was filled with these obligatory…
Earlier this month I wrote two posts about the evolution of the eye, a classic example of complexity in nature. (Parts one and two.) I'd like to write now about another case study in complexity that has fascinated me for some time now, and one that has sparked a fascinating debate that has been…

A TA I had for an undergrad psychology subject a couple years ago had the awesome last name of DeAth. Just wait until she finishes her PhD!
Definitely the two people whose last names are "Angst", especially given that they study pain and psychiatry!
Slightly off-topic, but...
I suppose most people have heard the story of George Gamov and his PhD student Ralph Alpher. Alpher had written a paper, and Gamow thought it would be funny to invite Hans Bethe to add his name as author. The paper was published under the names of Alpher, Bethe and Gamow.
In citing the most expert of sources, what could be better than the Lord, Fred Lord (inventor of item response theory and much of modern measurement) that is.
I used to know a couple guys named Juan Bravo and Luke Lightning. I thought they should get together and have their own Saturday morning cartoon show. I'm not sure who should be the intrepid star though, and who should be the loyal sidekick.
actually the name mentioned above is James Intriligator, which i think is even cooler... definitely the best name in science!
There's Dr. Polymeropolous from Rutgers who does genome work and the guy who discovered the sugar taste receptor is a Dr. Suker (I think).
can't forget one of today's most well-known names in behavioral neuroendocrinology (studying sex differences, hormones, and the brain) - marc breedlove
Back in my old neighborhood in Alaska, I worked in the same building as a dentist named Dr. Paine.
Bradley Love has a great name for a scientist, because it allows him to do things like name his lab "The Love Lab." Unfortunately, he doesn't study interpersonal relationships at all.
Another is David Nutt, professor of psychopharmacology.
Dr Martin S. Angst is my pick, such a fantastic person.
