There's some pulse-pounding high speed insect racing action going on in this animation, and one excellent dipteran crash, but otherwise, not much resolution to the story, and the nice spider gets shafted.
And I was rooting for the spider.

I already mentioned the MythBusters' crashing two cars episode where they correctly doubled the speed of a pendulum type object. Overall, this was a very visual (although expensive) demo. There was one part that left a sour taste in my mouth - the final explanation from the narrator. First, they…
A while back P. Z. Myers wrote a snotty, obnoxious post about how much he hated the big Les Miz movie. Now, I happen to be a bit protective of Les Miserables. I regard the original novel as the finest ever written, and I think the stage version of the musical does a good job of capturing the…
At the moment, all these are anywhere from free to two bucks. The Darwin books are always cheap, the others are probably temporarily cheap.
If you've not read The Autobiography of Charles Darwin, you should. It is always avaialable for next to nothing on the kindle, currently this version is 99…
I've been getting a lot of emails asking about the so-called "Z2K9" problem.
For those who haven't heard, the software on a particular model of Microsoft's Zune music player froze up on New Year's eve, because of a bug. Apparently, they didn't

Cute. What's the music and who gets credit for it?
Sorry, but I thought it was insufferably stupid. Too long, too.
Awwww, poor spider. Maybe there'll be a sequel?

i always root for the spider.
There doesn't seem to be a recent cephalopod entry on which to hang my post and link, but at least this item is in the entertainment category.
Here is something PZ probably missed seeing this new year (click on the spoiler link for pictures). This lovely critter hangs from ceilings, stands up on its own, crawls round walls and all manner of surfaces in pursuit of humans.
Thanks for the link - that was most excellent!
Jonathan,
Compared to the drivel that passes for entertainment on commercial television this was pure genius! Anyway did you ever watch any cartoons growing up? BTW the spider and the ladybug kinda reminded me of Wile E.Coyote and the Roadrunner.
Though I think the ladybug was a little more malicious.
