Introducing myself

I am another one of PZ's students just introducing myself. I am a biology major. When I am finished with my undergraduate work I hope to attend medical or physician assistant school. I am in neurobiology because I love learning about how the body works. It is part of what attracts me to the medical field.

So you're going to accumulate a body of knowledge?!

This must be a new strategy: short posts. You can't get criticized if there's nothing to criticize!

I love learning about how the body works. It is part of what attracts me to the medical field.

Don't forget the ways the (human) body doesn't work or goes wrong (often for evolutionary reasons) and, ideally (given your stated aim), how to fix them.

Hi Harderkid 13, Welcome to the blog.
I, too, think neurobiology is pretty cool. There is an author I like very much who writes about the brain and its effects on the body along with baboons. his name is Robert Sapolsky, and I am excited because he is coming to give a talk close by soon.
If you ever want some light and fun reading, that is on topic, that you won't have to memorize, try giving him a go.

Maybe a medical doctor can chime in on this, but I've been told by the nursing faculty at my school (who do have a vested interest) that if you're interested in becoming a physician's assistant, you really ought to look into becoming a certified nurse practitioner instead. According to them, CNPs have a lot more power than PAs - they can write prescriptions, they can practice without a doctor being present, etc.

You forgot the P tags or something, and the usual paragraph style didn't kick in.

Actually, that's IMHO one the things that make Pharyngula more pleasent to read than any other of SEED's Scienceblogs: The nice large-sized serif paragraph style.

Hi.I've been lurking here @ Pharyngula for about 8 months. I'm pretty old comparatively, having graduated with a major in Physics over 35 years ago. I recently discovered Biology. Am working my way through "Life: The Science of Biology" (8th edition)in addition to reading other works.

Good stuff that Biology. I'm on the last chapter of Sean Carroll's "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" with his "Making of the Fittest" to follow. (PZ's re-evaluation of Carroll's latest book was so cool - yes PZ, it's not intuitively obvious to the casual observer ;-).

Anyway, harderkid13, good luck to you (cool choice in picking a Biology major - don't discount the other sciences) and don't be discouraged by a rough crowd.
