Party like it's 1,000,000 comments

Even though it's actually 1,037,696 comments on ScienceBlogs right now, and they're a little slow, the New Yorkers are finally getting it together for a big shindig in the Big Apple. If you're somewhere near Manhattan on 7 October, stop by and party with the nerds.

A big event took place at noon Eastern time today. That's right, the soccer World Cup has started, and as I type this, Germany leads Costa Rica 2-1. Oh, yeah, and because the science nerds need something to do while the sports fans are all obsessing over soccer, the new, improved ScienceBlogs front…
As you may have already heard, ScienceBlogs is expecting to reach the 1 million comments mark sometime this month. And our generous overlords want to throw a party...actually several parties. They've encouraged ScienceBloggers to take their readers out for drinks, and the parties are happening all…
Pardon me, while I go off on a rant. Since I came to work for Google, I have a pretty long commute. Most of the time, I don't really mind it. It's all by train - first commuter rail from home into the city, and then subway from the terminal to my office. Commuting by train is not bad at all - you…
It's October, which means ScienceBlogs bloggers are, once again, participating in the DonorsChoose Blogger Challenge. The idea behind the drive is simple: we're appealing to you, our readers, to help public school teachers across the U.S. fund proposals for classroom supplies, activities, and…

Well I'll be somewhere near, but doubt I will brave the necessary LIRR/subway trip on a Tuesday night. Have fun, nerds!

yeesh, looks a bit sketchy there (I love streetview). But perhaps I can go. How fast does a 600 dollar bar tab disappear? Will you be joining the festivities PZ?

I'll be there :)

Well, there must be a Gawd... and He politely loathes me. I've got a bunch of family coming into town on the 7th. That bastard, Gawd, never let's me go to parties.

Have fun, New Yorkers. I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray.

??? The Official Commentometer on my display reads 1,019,360 - are there another stealth 26K comments available only to the Inside Traders?

Maybe you should aim for having 1 Megacomment, like 1 Megabyte - 2^20 comments rather than 10^6. That way the timing is about right, you can aim for 1048576 comments on the 7th.

Arguably, that would be a mebicomment rather than a megacomment depending on whether you value standards or tradition. I know they sound icky, but I like the IEC binary versions, so I've started to use MiB, GiB, etc. in writing, but say "megabyte" rather than "mebibyte". I hope they catch on.

w00t! I'm totally totally in!

Just out of curiosity; was the name of the millionth poster listed anywhere? I assume s/he lives in or near NY, since that's where the party is. And--alas--I live too far away :(
