Even though they are African fish eagles. I think we own the symbolism of all eagles everywhere, don't we?

No time for anything new (err, just a tad busy at the moment), so here's something else from the Tet Zoo archives. This article originally appeared on ver 1 in April 2006 and appears here in slightly modified form.
Last night Julia sent me a link to a video of a Golden Eagle swooping down into a Montreal park, picking up an infant/toddler and lifting it several feet into the air before dropping it and flying off.

Might be, that the Eagle has quite the symbolism in the US, but you can hardly claim it as your own...
The heraldic eagle was introduced in 102BC by the roman empire and has since been reused as a symbol of ones (percieved) superiority over other nations.
It is included in quite a lot of Coat of Arms all over the world, some countries (like Albania) even have it as the centerpiece of their flag.
Heck, even Mohammed is said to have had a "banner of the eagle"...
Considering that the US introduced the eagle in the great seal in 20 June 1782, its just plain silly (and not that educated) to believe the US owns the eagles symbolism everywhere...
Anyway, great picture, amazing animals and an interesting blog.
