In recognition of the fact that somebody else is now hosting my image files, here's some pet-blogging, a day earlier than is traditional. Because dogs should always come before cats...
What's Emmy staring at so intently? Could it be the new ScienceBlogs home page?
Well, no. She's not that into science. It's just the skunk toy we were playing tug with:
The greenish stuff hanging from her tongue in the top picture is stuffing from inside the skunk. She loves her toys, but she's very hard on them.
(I don't really expect to make this a regular feature, but it's a nice excuse to practice posting images... Also, that top image was number 666 according to our digital camera, so how could I pass that up?)

A lot of Twitter energy was soaked up Friday afternoon by a half stupid article by Virginia Heffernan at the New York Times. Sparked by Sodamageddon, she takes a look at ScienceBlogs for the first time, and doesn't like what she sees:

A Colbert Report re-run about the financial crisis has just ended, so I turn the tv off, grab my jacket and the leash, and head out for a walk with the dog. She's oddly pensive as we head up the street. After a little while, she stops and asks, "What was that all about?"

Maybe that's why I have this blinding headache...
I wonder how that happened? I think it should be fixed, now.

You're just taunting the nutjobs now, you godless heathen scientist you.
However, she does have a bit of the demon-dog eyes going . . .

That's nothing, as far as demon-dog eyes go.
Now _that_ is a ravening beastie come to eat our souls! Complete with hidden sinster mark of eeeeevil. (Though at least it doesn't appear to be an Ouroboros.)
My dog loves those crackly toys like Emmy's skunk.

The skunks are really terrific-- just the right sixe to play catch with, sturdy enough for some vigorous tugging, and with both crackly plastic and a squeaker.
Unfortunately, the local Target appears to have stopped carrying them. And left to her own devices, she can rip them open and pull all the stuffing out in about ten minutes, so they don't last long...
