...To Wound the Autumnal, um, Bike Path

A little fall foliage from Saturday's bike ride:

The bike path runs along the old Erie Canal tow path, and in a few places, they have restored/ preserved bits of the old canal. This is one of those-- you can see some of the stone wall on the left, and the wooden decking on the right is part of a structure that I think is an old lock. The canal itself is dry, and filled with these sumac trees, which have turned a really dramatic orange. Click on the image for a larger version.

There's an autumn Americana shot below the fold:

This is the baseball field at the local community college. It would be a better picture with some kids playing baseball, but alas, there wasn't anybody there.

Here's the crew I spent this past Saturday morning with: The guys who are younger than I am are a bunch of students from the local chapter of Sigma Phi. The one guy older than I am is from a volunteer group who help maintain the local bike path. The stone wall behind us is part of a lock from the…
In an effort to keep from turning into a total slug on weekends, I've taken to riding my bike on the Mohawk-Hudson Bikeway, which passes fairly close to our house. Getting on the trail can be a little nerve-wracking, depending on the traffic, but once on it, it's a pleasant ride all the way to…
Another in the sadly delayed wrapping-up of my photo-a-day project. These are all pictures from a hike in the Vischer Ferry Nature Preserve over in Clifton Park. We took the kids over there one time, but a thunderstorm started coming in before we got very far. While the kids were at my parents', I…
Saturday, I went for a good long bike ride before it got hot, making it all the way to the end of the Erie Canal portion of the bike path. There's a "detour" that takes you to further path via some dirt roads, but I opted instead for the quiet stretch of path along the canal, that dead-ends at some…

Nice. Here in Monterey, CA, we don't get any seasons to speak of (except for "cloudy" and "not so cloudy").
