Fearless Super Bowl Prognostication

I'll put my prediction behind the cut, as since the Pats lost, Kate has been trying to pretend that football season is over, and I wouldn't want to upset her...

I don't really have a strong rooting interest in either team. I have some good friends who are Bears fans, but that could cut either way, and while I'd like to see Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy win one, because they're both good guys, that's not a real strong interest, either. I havent really seen enough of either team to make a solid football-based prediction, either.

Looking at the rosters, though, I see that Adam Vinatieri is on the Colts, now, so I have a fair amount of confidence in predicting that the Colts will win by a field goal.

What's your prediction? Or are you just watching for the commercials?

I'm going to be in the Boston area this weekend, visiting Kate's family, so I will end up watching Saturday night's Giants-Patriots game with my Patriot-fan in-laws. In case you didn't know, New England is currently 15-0, and if they win this game they have the chance to be the first team to ever…
This was a topic yesterday on Mike & Mike, but I already had a full slate of blog posts. I like the question, though, so I thought I'd put it up here: If you're a fan of a team in a sport with a championship playoff, who do you root for when your team is out? This was brought up because some…
I watched the game at a Super Bowl party hosted by some of our senior majors, because Kate didn't want to see it. Of course, the guys who hosted the party didn't have cable, so we were watching the game through a haze of static and swirly lines that made the weather look even worse than it was.…
Today is "Selection Sunday," when the field for the NCAA basketball championships will be announced, and everybody will start filling out their office-pool bracket sheets. I'm going to be in the weird position of watching the tournament without a rooting interest, as both my teams stink, and won't…

I'm hoping the Colts win because they haven't won in 30 years. I have no real interest in the game other than that.

And ironically, they won despite Vinatieri's despicable and subpar play, exactly the kind of play you'd expect from a player formerly from the most overrated team in America.

I'd have to say ... that was mediocre, or worse.

I didn't particularly care who won, as long as it was a good game to watch. And I really can't say that I was even moderately entertained.

Talk about flawed contenders ... a lot of previous champs would've absolutely hammered either of these two teams, and I don't think their level of play can be blamed on the rain.
