Boid

This looks like it's most likely a robin, though it was kind of big for a robin, and the color is a little weird. Maybe it's molting, or some such. Anyway, it was perched right outside the window, and Her Majesty found it absolutely fascinating. So I took a picture.

Back in the day, when I was a teenager, I used to hop on the bus to Seattle and spend a day wandering the seedier parts of town. I'd get off around Pike Street, near the Farmers' Market, and wander around 1st and 2nd Avenues, which were not nice places for a quiet young man. But I had an obsession…
The dog is standing at the window, wagging her tail excitedly. I look outside, and the back yard is empty. "What are you looking at?" I ask. "Bunnies made of cheese!," she says. I look again, and the yard is still empty. "There are no bunnies out there," I say, "and there are certainly not any…
Before we get to the dog pictures, I want to give a quick shout-out to the Comment of the Month here, which is Josh's bunny made of cheese. That's great. Anyway, we went outside with the camera for a little while this afternoon, to get the table picture posted earlier. This was an adventure for Her…
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I was reading the Web this morning, and this story reminded me of a Thanksgiving a couple years ago. The news story is about how Thanksgiving dinner can cause flareups of gout. Gout -- if you don't know -- is an inflammatory joint disease caused by the deposition of…

Excuse me, Blueboid.

That's a female, which are slate-grey on the back with a more bluish tint to the wings. The males are the ones that are the brilliant blue.

Female I think. Maybe last year's chick just getting it's color. Shouldn't be bigger than a robin though, and that's a pretty strong eye-ring, so I might be wrong. rb

I thought robin at first because the eye ring appears broken in back of the eye, but with the white belly and shortish tail it's most likely a female Eastern Bluebird. Should be smaller than a robin, but it is puffed up in the cold. Hard to tell size without something to compare to.
