FutureBaby Playlist: T-Z

We had an appointment yesterday for a fetal echocardiogram, to look for heart problems that might've caused the scary first trimester screen result back in January. This was basically a high-resolution ultrasound focussed on the heart (with Doppler velocity imaging to look at blood flow), and after half an hour of looking at FutureBaby's heart beating from different angles (which is so cool), all was declared well. FutureBaby appears to be perfectly healthy. Also, wiggly-- the whole thing took a little longer than it otherwise might've, thanks to a whole lot of baby squirming.

To celebrate the good news, here's the final block of songs from the FutureBaby playlist. There's no particular connection between any of these songs and cardiac health, but this is as good a place to mention the results as any.

  • "Swamp," Talking Heads
  • "And She Was," Talking Heads
  • "Stay Up Late," Talking Heads (This might be tempting fate...)
  • "Wild Wild Life," Talking Heads
  • "(Nothing But) Flowers," Talking Heads
  • "Tell Balgeary, Balgury Is Dead," Ted Leo & The Pharmacists
  • "The Way You Do The Things You Do," The Temptations
  • "My Girl," The Temptations
  • "Ain't Too Proud To Beg," The Temptations
  • "Birdhouse in Your Soul," They Might Be Giants (I know they have a kid's album. I don't own it. Or, actually, any of their stuff other than the two songs here, and "Ana Ng.")
  • "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," They Might Be Giants (Wirdly, I don't own the original of this. Another one for the to-be-purchased list.)
  • "Blue," The Thorns
  • "Life Is A Highway," Tom Cochrane
  • "Free Fallin'," Tom Petty (Again, being able to sing along is key...)
  • "American Girl," Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
  • "Mary Jane's Last Dance," Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
  • "Hang Down Your Head," Tom Waits (Anybody can sing along to Tom Waits and sound pretty good, relatively.)
  • "Downtown Train," Tom Waits
  • "Ol' 55," Tom Waits
  • "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses," U2
  • "Ultraviolet (Light My Way)," U2
  • "Bad," U2
  • "Angel Of Harlem," U2
  • "Give Back The Key To My Heart," Uncle Tupelo
  • "I Wanna Be Your Dog," Uncle Tupelo (Much less grating than the original)
  • "Sister Havana," Urge Overkill
  • "Jump," Van Halen (It's an action song...)
  • "Gloria," Van Morrison
  • "Brown Eyed Girl," Van Morrison (The US radio edit, for the squeamish.)
  • "Domino," Van Morrison
  • "Real Real Gone," Van Morrison
  • "Jackie Wilson Said (I'm In Heaven When You Smile)," Van Morrison
  • "Sing, Sing, Sing, Pts. 1 & 2," Various Artists (Actually Benny Goodman and his orchestra, but iTunes inexplicably lists them as "Various Artists.")
  • "Sweet Jane," The Velvet Underground
  • "Same Jeans," The View
  • "American Music," Violent Femmes
  • "Manhattan," Visqueen
  • "Gorilla You're A Desperado," Warren Zevon
  • "Mohammed's Radio," Warren Zevon
  • "Werewolves Of London," Warren Zevon ("Lawyers, Guns, and Money" misses the list for the "The shit has hit the fan" line.)
  • "The Whole Of The Moon," The Waterboys
  • "Reconstruction Site," The Weakerthans
  • "Plea From A Cat Named Virtue," The Weakerthans
  • "Our Retired Explorer (Dines With Michel Foucault In Paris, 1961)," The Weakerthans
  • "A New Name For Everything," The Weakerthans
  • "One Great City!," The Weakerthans (It's important to start instilling a hatred of Winnipeg at an early age...)
  • "Sun In an Empty Room," The Weakerthans
  • "Buddy Holly," Weezer
  • "Island In The Sun," Weezer
  • "Hotel Yorba," The White Stripes
  • "Keep On The Sunny Side," The Whites
  • "Box Full Of Letters," Wilco
  • "Outtasite (Outta Mind)," Wilco (It starts out with the "Sesame Street" riff-- how could I not include it?)
  • "Outta Mind (Outta Sight)," Wilco
  • "Land Of 1000 Dances," Wilson Pickett (Naa, na-na-na naaa...)
  • "Call Me Up," World Party
  • "Put The Message In The Box," World Party
  • "Woo Hoo," The 5.6.7.8.'s

This was a quick pass through the 10,000+ songs in my collection, so I undoubtedly missed some good stuff. There are also some notable gaps in my collection, which I'll have to rectify in the coming weeks and months...

On the assumption that I'm in California, some happy music for your Friday: "ELT" by Wilco from the album Summerteeth (1999, 3:46). "Walls (Circus)" by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers from the album She's the One (1996, 4:25). "Blue Eyed Soul" by Wilco from the album A.M. (1995, 4:05). "…
I'm not organized enough to make this a regular feature, or to use it to divine the future, but every now and then, I get a really good run of songs on the iTunes shuffle, and make a note. Here's a batch from this weekend (with a smattering of comments): "White Russian Galaxy," The Crimea "Be Sweet…

Congratulations! Great song list too. Play those tunes when you have to get up for baby duty in the wee hours...

Excellent news :). As it turns out, this morning was our 8-week sonogram, and hence the point at which I get to mention things such as 'we're having a sonogram' :). All appropriate bits present and wiggling. I guess I need to get on this playlist lark, huh?

[Mind you, I have only <1K songs on this thing, so the process may be rather faster! I can confidently predict that GrooveLily, Dave's True Story, and John McCutcheon are going to feature prominently, though.]

OK, the whole day has been kinda bouncy. I'll go to bed now. Thanks for reminding me of Zevon, though.

How odd. After "only," above, I had a 'lesser than' symbol and following text: I guess it got interpreted as html coding and eaten.

please mentally insert 'fewer than 1K songs on this thing, so the process may be rather swifter. I can confidently predict that it will heavily feature GrooveLily, Dave's True Story, and John McCutcheon.'

Since you included a numeric band at the end here, I'll toss in one recommendation for a good song for a kidlet:

"Ponderous" by 2nu. Weird, but tame.
