It's not really the official Twitter logo bird, but it's pretty close.

After this was taken, we spent a good half hour playing a rousing game of "Clueless Mail Carrier":

She picked up the padded shipping envelope that the memory card for my camera came in, and walked around and around the house with it, setting it down, picking it back up, and occasionally stopping to squint at the label like she was trying to read the address. It was great fun.

(Whatever works, man...)

We got a good group photo this week, showing everybody, with Appa for scale, even: Here, SteelyKid is opening a bag of small presents that Aunt Norma and Uncle Dan sent, while the Pip engages in the traditional five-week-old-infant pursuit of sleeping a whole lot. When she's not opening early…
I'm off to The City for TED@NYC on Tuesday, and while I might schedule something with the approximate text of my talk for Wednesday morning, more substantial blogging won't resume until Thursday. But I don't want to leave political post as the top thing on the blog, so here, have a cute kid picture…
A bunch of stuff happened that knocked me out of the habit of editing and posting photos-- computer issues, travel, catching up on work missed because of travel, and a couple of bouts with a stomach bug the kids brought home. I have been taking pictures, though, and will make an attempt to catch up…
SteelyKid's second-grade teacher sent home a couple of books about kids dealing with the loss of beloved pets-- one of which, The Tenth Good Thing About Barney is surprisingly atheistic. We read them at bedtime the other night, which was a little rough. After we finished, and moved her to her bed (…

For some reason, toddlers really like mail. One of my nephews--about one year old--grabbed hold of a FedEx Pak filled with documents and was gleefully running all over with it.

Toddlers do like mail. When I was a teenager and volunteered at the local science museum there was regulation mail box with no lock on it and stairs leading up to in the toddler area. It also had "mail", a toddler size mail bag, and toddler size postal uniform shirt that were very popular. Almost as popular as the water table. I spent lots of time making sure little fingers didn't get pinched while unloading the mail.

My four year old still likes making us "mail", she often comes home from daycare with sealed envelopes full of magazine clippings and distributes them to various family members.
