Belated Paparazzi Blogging 071511

Yesterday's foray into procrastination by mathematical modeling forced me to shift some actual work into the evening hours, which meant that I completely forgot about Toddler Blogging. Which is fine, because lately SteelyKid has been reacting to cameras in approximately the same way as the reclusive celebrity of your choice, so all my pictures of he tend to look like this:

Just after this shot, she heard the shutter sound, turned around, and fled crying. So, you know, I feel like a wonderful person.

anyway, sorry for the delay, but at least it gave me something to post this morning. We're off to Readercon for the weekend, so you shouldn't expect much blog-like activity. Which is probably fine, because between the George R. R. Tolkien Martin book and the Harry Potter movie, I doubt anyone's doing all that much blog reading, anyway.

More like this

Inspired by the anti-flash-photography article in the morning's links dump, this week's Toddler Blogging offers you a choice of two different pictures. Here's one with the flash: And one without: (Appa's been feeling self-conscious about SteelyKid's growth lately, and asked for a little forced…
A little while back, I bought The Dragon's Path by Daniel Abraham. Abraham is the author of the highly-regarded but not all that highly sold Long Price Quartet. I've heard nothing but good things about this, but I couldn't get through the first book, for reasons that are entirely personal and no…
So, there's some amount of Harry Potter mania out there in the world this weekend, what with a new movie and the last book in the series being released. (To show you how disconnected I am from the mania, I could not tell you without recourse to the internet whether The Order of the Phoenix is the…
I woke up this morning, feeling under the weather, so I have not been doing much writing today. Sorry about that. I had planned to put together a few more pieces for you to read today, but analgesics have dulled my writing ambitions along with my pain. I did download three scientific papers this…

You know you can turn off the shutter sound, right?

Or teach her how to use the camera, and let her take pictures of you and her mom and Emmy, for a change, until she likes cameras again.

She's old enough to handle a cheap point-and-shoot, with supervision, too. Give her one of your old ones, and see how she responds.

And my vote is to let her know that her boundaries are respected, and don't worry about us. Ask nicely each time if you may take a picture, and if she says, "No," say, "Okay. I'll ask again some other time," and then make a show of setting the camera aside.

I love the weekly toddler blogging, but hey, we'll live.

I really like Ms. Anderson's suggestion, too. Maybe treat us to some pictures that Steelylkid takes, for a while.
