161/366: Mobile Office

Some time back, I posted a photo of my usual spot at the Starbucks in Niskayuna. When I was in Newport News earlier this week, of course, I had to find a different space from which to rant about Twitter. Here's that spot:

My "office" when I was in Virginia. My "office" when I was in Virginia.

As you can see, the principal difference between the two is that I didn't bring my stainless-steel travel mug with me on the trip. The store in Newport News is laid out almost exactly the same way as my regular one in Niskayuna.

I'm probably more amused by this than any of my readers will be, but then, this was the only remotely photo-worthy thing in a long annoying day of air travel on Wednesday. So.

As an anthropologist, I find the interface between technology and the larger culture in which it is embedded fascinating. You all know the old story of the family cook who habitually cuts the ends off the roast before slipping it in the oven. One day her child, hoping some day to be the family…
This is the third post in which I'm pulling a revise-and-extend job on some things I said at Science Online at a few panels on bloggy stuff, and the one I'm least settled about. Previous posts covered the in how-to-do-outreach session (posted Monday and the blogging long term session (posted…
