Quick update, and send good vibes to ScienceWoman

i-f875c0b07d9b3cb6229668554781b35a-alice.jpgQuick update from RL: ScienceWoman is dealing with some intense stuff in the real world, and while she may or may not blog about it, might benefit from some shout-outs of encouragement from any readers so inclined. Go ahead, I'll wait...

[good vibes being sent to SW ...... NOW!]

I have 3 posts in my head to write, but they're now competing with day 2 of my first migraine since November. Boooo. The unbloggable actions continue (and no, not application-to-other-institution-worthy), and came with a 2 hour conversation with my Dean last week (who I continue to think is a completely fabulous human being). I also talked with the university president, provost, president's assistant (the former ambassador to Belize), and the VP for media and marketing for an hour last week. No wonder my head is exploding. Lots of material to blog, if I could just get rid of the migraine and nausea. (Sorry, TMI probably.)

For those of you in academia, hope your semesters are finishing up okay, and for those of you not, hope you are enjoying spring. (We bought even more asparagus today, w00t!)

OK, everyone is doing this (Janet was the last one I saw), so I'll do it, too. Instead of writing a creative year in review, just copy the first sentence of the first blogpost of each month in 2006. Until June 9th I had three blogs, so I have to pick the first sentence from the first post on each…
Received the official letter from the Provost--the Board of Regents approved my application for tenure and promotion to Associate Professor. The process here started last summer. My dossier (with my course syllabi, statements on teaching/research/service, student and peer evaluations of my…
Just super busy in the 3D world, as Janet calls it. Burning the candle at both ends. But I have a little time carved out tomorrow morning and I hope to get a blog post written then. And next week is spring break for us, so I hope to have more time then. In the meantime, let me offer a choice of…
Oh lord, what fools these mortals be. Especially that one down there named Alice. I've had two particular moments of foolishness in the last few days that have smacked me upside the head. And because the Scientiae theme for April (shockingly) is "fools and foolishness," I feel compelled to share…

*insert appropriate support or encouragement here*

The spirit is more than willing but the engineer is still tinkering with the "life is good" transfer case.

Alas, that good wishes are not enough.

As many good vibes as I can find around here under the marking piles are winging their way towards SW. Sorry oif they're a bit tired and tatty around the edges, end of term is an uphill slog here too (and I have 7 weeks to go, what with the formal exam sessions and all the end of year meetings... roll on July!!)

Sending many good vibes your way, SW!

Good vibes SW. All things pass. . .

SW, you and Alice are my professional inspiration. I've thought about your comment a while back that you're trying to change the system from the inside, and I have so much respect for your efforts, which must be so very hard sometimes. That's a run on sentence, but there you go. :-)

You are doing a great job. Having female friendly science blogs make me feel optimistic. I just published a letter to the editor that I wrote to Science, but that they decided not to publish. It is a critique of a sexist research article they published, please check it out:

Good vibes to you SW. We'll be patiently waiting for your return. Best wishes to both of you. Alice, it sounds like you could use some encouragement too. Keep it up!

Hang in there SW, we're all rooting for you...

SW, you & Minnow are in my prayers.
