As ScienceBlogs approaches its 500,000th comment, The Scientific Activist just passed a milestone of its own: its 1,000th comment since joining ScienceBlogs. In the spirit of the occasion, then, I'd like to thank everyone who has commented on the blog--whether regularly or just once--but special props go to Dr. SLC, who graced us with comment 1,000 in a discussion on HIV/AIDS in South Africa that has... well... taken on a life of its own.
So, for those who have not commented yet, give it a try. It'll feel good. Trust me. (Plus, there are prizes!)
And, without further ado, here's to the next thousand!

Anyone who reads this blog knows my opinion of homeopathy. Just type "homeopathy" in the little search box on the left side of this blog, and you'll be greeted with many, many posts dating back to the very beginnings of Orac's presence on ScienceBlogs. Of course, science is with me on this one, as…
Pity poor Peter Duesberg.
Back in the 1980s, he was on the top of the world, scientifically speaking. A brilliant virologist with an impressive record of accomplishment, publication, and funding, he seemed to be on a short track to an eventual Nobel Prize. Then something happened. The AIDS epidemic…
You know, like the namesake of my nom de blog, I'm not immune to a little vanity. Indeed, I daresay that no human is. What differs among humans are two things: the level of vanity and what we're vain about. Given that I don't have all that much in the looks department going on, it's fortunate that…
I'd like to hear from some other sciencebloggers and science readers what they think reform of peer-review should look like. I'm not of the opinion that it has any critical flaws, but most people would like to see more accountability for sand-bagging and other bad reviewer habits. Something like…
1. Although Mr. Anthis was perhaps being a little snarky in italicizing the Dr. in from of my initials, I actually do have a PhD in physics from a reputable university.
2. Interested readers might want to go to the attached link to a thread on Tata Smiths' blog on HIV/AIDS which has accumulated, as of this writing, some 168 comments. Some earlier threads on that blog on the same subject accumulated as many as 500 comments. As I stated on the other thread, this topic draws the whackjobs out of the woodwork and fortunately there are people over there like Chris Noble who know what they are talking about to refute their nutty claims.
No snarkyness intended on my part: just being facetious.
Thanks again for the comments!
Sorry, forgot to post the link.
