Bees

On another topic... I did my bees last sunday. Only a little honey, and I left them that for the winter. Disappointing: it must have been a poor summer. It *was* a fairly rainy summer. Hopefully this isn't the first sign of colony collapse: presumably not, as there were plenty of them.

[Maybe I should say... mine may be disappointing but my friends ones are dead :-( -W]

It is early autumn, so an old man's thoughts turn to his bees. Sadly neglected again, I wonder what they are up to? Have they produced a good honey harvest or - more likely given the rather unfortunate summer here - have they just survived? Happily I have some Apistan all saved up, and its,…

We're very tiny maple producers, and only on a home scale. I boil the syrup down on the back of our woodstove, and collect the syrup from old plastic buckets. Our operation is stone-age compared to our more serious neighbors. We don't have much of a sugar bush - most of our land was open 30…
