The management apologise for more inconvenience

I'm not having the problems this time, but you are. Or so I'm told. If you can see this, then you're not having problems, I suppose, but they are said to look like:

Your access to this site has been limited

Your access to this service has been temporarily limited. Please try again in a few minutes. (HTTP response code 503)

Reason: Exceeded the maximum global requests per minute for crawlers or humans.

Important note for site admins: If you are the administrator of this website note that your access has been limited because you broke one of the Wordfence blocking rules. The reason your access was limited is: "Exceeded the maximum global requests per minute for crawlers or humans.".

As an aside, I'll note that I have a "private" (i.e., I post whatever I feel like on it) blog at wmconnolley.blogspot.com. If every this site doesn't work, try looking over there.

[Update 2017/07/17:22:00: thank you for your concern (or at least, those of you who were concerned. For the reset, well screw you too :-). I'm told the problems are now over, woot.]

It seems that the cat is out of the bag: scienceblogs is shutting down. Well, nothing lasts forever; or as Bowie - who also didn't last forever - put it: breaking up is hard, but keeping dark is hateful. I regret the close, partly as a disruption to my quiet routine but also as the end of someone'…
Actually it turns out that this is part 3! But I'm not going to revise the title now. Part 1 and Part 2 refer, as does some digging. [Update: this made the [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2009-12-28/In the news]] ] So, Lawrence "beany" Solomon does me the honour of a full-out assault. I'm a bit…

Words carefully chosen, as you'll discover. The back story: Lennart Bengtsson has a paper rejected by ERL0 because, amongst other failings, the "overall innovation of the manuscript is very low". In a huff, he joins the GWPF1, which is much trumpeted by the Dork Side. His colleagues point out this…

Seems to be working (for?) now.

Takes several tries to get this far.

I'm also getting the error, on this site and at Orac's. One thing that seems to help is clearing your browsing data.
I'd also like to confirm what David is saying: that it sometimes takes several tries before the page loads.

When I yesterday faced the block screen I thought you are under some kind of DoS.
A slight inconvinience it only is as the site works regardless, even if clumsily .

Management says there should be no more 503s for the time being.

[Thanks. Possibly ironically, your email doesn't work, so my mail saying thanks hasn't reached you :-) -W]

The Environment section seems to be okay now.

Politics, OTOH, still seems to be quite Borked up at 2 PM EDT.

Normal service appears to have resumed agane. With that, we bid you goodnight.

The site is not fixed. For example, I can't access the back end at all to free comments, post, etc.

This has been true for a couple of days. I've sent several emails to this effect.

[Are you getting the "Your IP (IP_address) has been flagged for potential security violations. Find out more..." problem? I got that again, today, from home. Happily work doesn't trigger it much so I can whitelist myself -W]
