The (non-Detroit) Lions

A few days back I mentioned the anatomically correct statues of lions that have created a bit of a stir here in Arizona. Remember? "[T]he lions are depicted raising their bottoms in the air, each with a ram trapped under it in what some perceive as a sexually suggestive pose." Well inquiring minds want to know, so here's the best picture I can find:

Yup, this is what people in Arizona have time to grouse about. Apparently they are being actioned off for charity.

They are not Detroit Lions for a very simple reason ... they'd probably win more games.

More like this

Sometimes I despair: [E]ight lifelike lion statues across from what soon will be Arizona's largest cineplex apparently are a bit too lifelike for some tastes. Guarding the entrances of a children's water fountain park at a high-profile West Valley retail project, the concrete beasts are depicted…
Welcome to the most recent installation of the neuroscience blog carnival, Encephelon, here at Of Two Minds! I'm going to be in the Boston area this weekend, visiting Kate's family, so I will end up watching Saturday night's Giants-Patriots game with my Patriot-fan in-laws. In case you didn't know, New England is currently 15-0, and if they win this game they have the chance to be the first team to ever…

You live in a sad country. Your fellow Americans who feel offended by such harmless statues should never consider to visit Europe, Asia or Africa. In Europe they may even encounter such things if they only visit churches. In addition, they shall never, really never, go to the English Garden in Munich or any beach in Germany during summer, otherwise they will be traumatized for the rest of their lifes.
By the way, aren't these the very same people who like politicians who walk and act as if they are suffering from permanent priapism.

All I can say is thank the Cosmicc Muffin that it isn;t aht Britney Spears Statue.

You are not kidding. A few years back we had an Attorney General who, once he took office, had a sheet put over the statue of "The Spirit of Justice' (our goverment is an Irony Free Zone the last 6 years).
