Blog Carnivals

I've been terribly remiss as of late in both promoting and submitting to blog carnivals. However, I wanted to draw your attention to an interesting new carnival and the latest edition of an old stalwart. The Cancer Research Blog Carnival is hosted this week at nosugrefneb.com/weblog written by Ben Ferguson, an MD/PhD student in cancer biology and a capella jazz singer at the University of Chicago. Ben also writes for Medscape's med student feature, The Differential, and produces the Pritzker Podcasts for prospective students interested in the University of Chicago. In his spare time, he is…
tags: encephalon, blog carnivals The 37th edition of Encephalon is now available for your reading pleasure. The editor included a submission from me, so of course, I am happy!
tags: books, blog carnivals The 2 December issue of the Books Carnival is now available for you to enjoy. This carnival looks like it is filled with press releases, however, I think the press releases will be obvious to you after a few seconds of browsing. The book reviews written by real people are also fairly obvious (including a few of mine!) so be sure to look for those as well.
tags: philosophia naturalis, blog carnivals The 15th edition of Philosophia Naturalis, a blog carnival devoted primarily to physics, astronomy and the earth sciences, has just been published for you to enjoy. I am pleased to report that they included a piece that I wrote, so I am happy about that!
tags: birds, birding, bird watching, blog carnival, I and the Bird The 63rd edition of I and the Bird blog carnival is now available for your reading pleasure. It's a big one, as usual, which always pleases me -- of all the things that a person can write about on their blog, birds and birdwatching are high on everyone's list. Of course, they saw fit to include a contribution from me, too, which also makes me happy.
Apologies for the lack of posting; been a busy fall here. I'll have a real post up later today; in the meantime, I'll note that the latest edition of Grand Rounds is up over at Prudence, M.D.
I got sidetracked today with activities in that thing called the meat world. So, I can only refer you to a very nice roundup of expert medical blogging over at RevolutionHealth and Dr Val and The Voice of Reason blog. Dr Val (Val Jones, M.D.) has been a frequent and thoughtful commenter around these parts and I find her monthly (or so) roundups to be as good as any other medical blog carnival, except that she picks all the entries. Enjoy....back to writing for me.
_Paddy K_ hosts the "eighty twelfth" edition of Tangled Bank, proving once again that you can never go wrong when you combine partying + scientists + nerdy science bloggy goodness.
tags: drugs, pharmaceuticals, Drugs and Pharmacology carnival, blog carnival Hey you guys, the very first edition of the new blog carnival, Drugs and Pharmacology carnival, is now available for you to read. This is a monthly blog carnival that focuses on essays related to drugs -- ranging from the medicinal to the recreational.
Welcome to this month's edition of Pediatric Grand Rounds! Sit back with a cup of mulled cider and enjoy the best of the past month: Revere at Effect Measure tells the tale of Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 19A--a serotype that's not included in the current vaccine, but has increasingly found as a cause of ear aches in children. Of course, in addition to ear infection, 'tis the season for influenza. As such, it's timely that Highlight Health, Walter emphasizes the importance of influenza vaccination. My own addition to this month's carnival touches on similar themes: how kids'…
During the week, I got too tied up to mention that one of our posts on thinking about gender in science and medicine got picked up by Yami McMoots at Green Gabbro for the 13th edition of the Scientiae blog carnival. Scientiae "is a blog carnival that compiles posts written about the broad topic of "women in STEM," (STEM=science, technology, engineering and mathematics)." My good friend here at ScienceBlogs, Zuska, encouraged a few of us boys to submit something on the inner dialogue we have about gender in our profession. I continued to be bewildered that women continue to be treated…
tags: circus of the spineless, blog carnival I know that at least some of you assume that that the Circus of the Spineless blog carnival is all about politicians, but (sorry to disappoint you), this blog carnival instead focuses on linking to essays about invertebrates. The 26th edition of this blog carnival has a lot of wonderful links and stories about insects and other invertebrates for you to enjoy. And, best of all, they included a submission from me!
tags: women, all women blogging, blog carnival Actually, the latest edition of the All Women Blogging blog carnival has been available for a few days, but I was in Texas this past weekend, so was unable to post anything about it. But as they say, better late than never, eh? This is really a huge international blog carnival, full of a variety of blog goodness, so be sure to go there and check out what they've linked to.
tags: carnival of cities, blog carnival Wow, they like me! The latest edition, the Five Digital Snapshots edition, of the Carnival of Cities is now available for you to enjoy. There are several essays there that really make me miss .. other cities, other homes, that I've lived in. But they included a piece that I wrote, a piece that I had a lot of fun writing, as a matter of fact!
I'll be hosting the latest edition of Pediatric Grand Rounds here this coming Sunday. Send along submissions dealing with any aspect of children's health to me by Saturday evening for inclusion.
The Scientiae blog carnival has been soliciting posts for their November edition on "talking to yourself." Zuska brought this theme to the attention of some of us guy bloggers and carnival host Yami at Green Gabbro elaborated as follows: ...the past few Scientiae carnivals have been composed entirely of women's voices. While I think it's appropriate that women's voices should dominate the conversation about women's experiences, the job of thinking about gender in science belongs to everyone! I'd like to invite all you equality-minded men scientists to join the fun this time around - how do…
tags: Tangled Bank, blog carnival The 91st edition of my favorite blog carnival, Tangled Bank, is now available for your enjoyment. This blog carnival is devoted to linking the best blog essays about science, nature and medicine. The editor included two of my submissions, so you should go there to show them some support!
tags: Carnival of the Feminists, blog carnival The 46th edition of the Carnival of the Feminists is now available for you to read and learn from. In addition to all the other essays they linked to, I am pleased to say that the editor also included an essay that I wrote. So get on over there and give them some support!
tags: Gene Genie, blog carnival The 18th edition of Gene Genie is now available. This blog carnival links to essays about DNA technology. Interestingly, this carnival also includes a streaming video of the Personal Genomics (PG) Tips Chimp!
tags: I and the Bird, blog carnival The 60th edition of the blog carnival, I and the Bird is now available for your reading pleasure. This one, as usual, is huge. I am so astonished at how this particular blog carnival has taken off and become so popular among birders. I am pleased that they included a submission of mine, but somewhat dismayed to know that most people are kinda scared off by the topic. Hey, I think you should read it; it's actually a very well-written piece! I promise!
