Thank you Bill Gates for your work on behalf of farmers and.... for blogging on our book, Tomorrow's Table!
If you don't have time to read the full reviews, here are a few excerpts:
"This is an important book for anyone who wants to learn about the science of seeds and the challenges faced by farmers... I think anyone who reads this book will be convinced of the authors' sincerity and intelligence - even if, like me, you never try any of the cool-sounding recipes...
I gained an understanding of the history of organic farming and learned about some of the very clever ways organic farmers…
Hi everyone,
I apologize for my long hiatus from blogging. Things have just been crazy at work lately. All the same it has given me some time to think about what I want from blogging, and where I see myself in the next several years.
For those of you who don't know I am an MD-PhD student which means that when I finish my PhD -- hopefully in about a year -- I will return to medical school. Anyone who has written a dissertation or gone through 3rd of medical school will tell you that neither are particularly conducive to large amounts of free time. So looking forward I have to take into…
If you are in the NY area, you might want to consider coming to this talk that is being organized by Kate. The title is "DISCUSSION ON THE ROLES OF EMERGING MEDIA OUTLETS IN COMMUNICATING SCIENCE." It is taking place tomorrow (Thursday) at 7 pm in the Mt. Sinai East Building Seminar Room. (The East Building is located at 1425 Madison Ave. @ 98th St.)
The discussion features among other fellow ScienceBlogger Carl Zimmer, of the NYTimes. Kate and I will also be there, and SEED is sponsoring.
So come on by. More information below the fold.
UPDATE by Kate: Yes, folks, Jake Young will…
Here I am. Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in.
Honestly, I'm happy to be back in the blogosphere. The world is chock-full of great reproduction, sex, and parental research, and I'm thrilled to have a forum in which to talk about it. Jake was very sweet to take me under his wing.
So, you'll be seeing a bit of me here, amongst Jake's tirades and posts about Britney Spears. Who, really, is the vision of a sex and parental case study herself.
Until then, friends...
I am pleased to announce that Pure Pedantry is being joined by another wonderful, erudite and articulate co-blogger: Kate Seip. Kate formerly ran a blog called Anterior Commissure that many of you have probably read. She is a PhD student at Rutgers, and she also co-organizes the Science Communication Consortium -- a speaking and lecture series about science communication in society. (You can read more about her on our About Page.)
Kate specializes in maternal, sexual, and mating behavior -- subjects that are always good for a burst of traffic. That being said, she regularly exceeds all…
So some of the SciBlings have been playing with one of the newer "rate-your-impact" websites called QDos. (The Internet is such a narcissistic place.) Basically, through an algorithm I don't entirely understand, it calculates the impact factor of your name. You can then compare it to other names. Here is what happens when I compared it to religious leaders:
Sweet. I should totally start a religion or jihad or something.
