Devastating news from my neighborhood in North Carolina... It's been a roller coaster of a week for Charles E Jordan High School in Durham, North Carolina. (Wikipedia history here). As we noted earlier this week, Jordan's Shivani Sud took first prize in the Intel Science Talent Search for her work on biochemical markers of stage II colon cancer. The Intel…
The interest in the conference was overwhelming this year. When we opened the registration back in September we did not expect that we would have to close it in less than three weeks, already over our maximal number of 200. As a result, our waitlist got bigger and bigger and, occasionally, as…
Dr Ernest Eliel, a past-president of the American Chemical Society, passed away in Chapel Hill, NC, on Thursday evening. Dr Eliel was 86. The Houston Astros hat that Eve Carson's killer was wearing does have a gang affiliation. The H logo pays homage to Larry Hoover who was in various incarnations of the Black Gangster Disciples, which he founded. Throughout the 60s Hoover created alliances and nations of gangs in the Chicago area. Lemaricus Davidson, the lead "accused" black slayer of Channon Christian and Chris Newsome was also a BGD-- and we know what THAT means--the murder of Eve Carson could not POSSIBLY have been racially motivated--lol.

This is definitely a tragedy. We had a similar case at my university this week, and we are still in shock. Eve Carson was definitely someone who was going to go places and do great things...I really hope the perpetrator is found, although I'm not sure if there can ever really be justice in cases like this.

Anne-Marie, yes I had read about Lauren Burk earlier in the week and initially thought that the first stories about Eve Carlson were about the Auburn case. You probably already know this but both young women are from Georgia, having grown up about 70 miles apart. What a terrible loss for both of our communities and their respective families.

so many of our wonderful young college students are being killed . what is it that we as a nation and community are missing or not seeing in people that do this. to me this is a real question , not a criticism, by any means ,maybe there is things that happen and no tell tale sign was given. it makes my heart sick to see pictures and hear on the news that such precious youth are being killed. the scurge of our society is that we let creeps run the street, whom the justice system has turned loose to soon because of overpopulation of the prisons.

I hated hearing that Eve Carson was kidnapped and rapped and also murdered. Even if her ancestors owned slaves that doesnt give them two- Atwater and Lovette Jr. the right to kill her!! She had her whole life ahead of her she was going to graduate and become something that is better than her killers!!! Forget what her killers` families want and do the right and the best thing for the whole university!!!

Have a teacher that has a son that is a UNC student and has a little girl too!!!
