Sez new Secretary of Defense Bobby Gates: "I would confess I’m no expert on Iraq." Which would be OK, except that "Later, asked about reaching the right balance between American and Iraqi forces, he told the panel he was 'no expert on military matters.'"

This is something I use at the beginning of a semester. I ask the class: "How are you an expert?" What is an expert? Let me call an expert someone that is comfortable answering questions about that particular topic.
You know who they are - those organizations that have words like "freedom" and "rights" "choice" and "consumer" in their names but always shill for corporate interests...those occasional MDs or engineers creationists find that will say evolution has nothing to do with science.

Anyone expect anything different? This administration places no value whatsoever on knowing how to do a job. Loyalty trumps competence every single time. Just look at the guys who worked with Bremer in Baghdad: not one had any experience in whatever he was in charge of. Look at Brownie. Why not Gates, too? He's there to help W ignore the Report.

If he were an expert, I'm sure the Administration would have to find a political hack to review his comments.
