Monkey Girl author Ed Humes will be on campus on March 28 and at the JCCC on March 29. He'll be discussing his book and the events in the Dover school board trial.
On April 3, Taner Edis will be speaking about "The Creation/Evolution Debate in the Muslim World" in Alderson auditorium on campus at 7 PM. Edis is a professor at Truman State, and recently wrote An Illusion of Harmony: Science And Religion in Islam.
These should be exciting events, and I hope we'll have good crowds for them.

Ed Humes, author of the acclaimed Monkey Girl: Evolution, Education, Religion, and the Battle for America's Soul, will be speaking twice in Kansas next month.
He'll be speaking at KU's Dole center on the 28th, and then at the JCCC at 7 PM on the 29th.
Both promise to be interesting events.
The headline for this week's current reading on the Island is perhaps unfair. It's become trite to point out that algebra and algorithm, to name just two mathematical terms, are derived from Muslim scholars. But as Taner Edis, the author of the book "An Illusion of Harmony: Science and Religion in…
Taner Edis, a physicist at Truman State University, came to KU a couple days ago to talk about his research into creationism in the Muslim world. That research most recently led to his book An Illusion of Harmony: Science And Religion in Islam.
Dr. Edis grew up and went to college in Turkey,…
One of the more curious episodes in recent cultural history is the adoption, word for word, by Islamists particularly in Turkey of the American Christian fundamentalist antievolution schtick. Nobody knows more about this than Taner Edis, whose book An Illusion of Harmony: Science And Religion in…

Further details on the Ed Humes "Monkey Girl" talk at JCCC March 29
It will be in the Craig Community Auditorium (GEB 233) at 7:00 PM.
Ed will speak about his book and the Dover, PA "intelligent design" trial, then do a little Q&A, and finally, sign his book. Rainy Day Books is doing book sales.
For anyone who hasn't read this book, please do. It's an intriguing inside view of the personalities and events of the Dover trial, and it reads like a novel.
Ed Humes is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author, and we are all looking forward to his talk, which is sponsored by Kansas Citizens For Science (www.kcfs.org). Y'all come! It's free and open to the public.
