A letter to the President

Dr. President Obama,

Let me start by saying that there are few things I've done in my life that I'm prouder of than helping to get you elected. The community of people I met here in California, in Nevada, and spoke with on the phone across the nation, was astonishing and a source of constant inspiration.

Wherever I go, people have had an extra zip in their step when they remembered that you'd be taking office soon. If polls are to be believed, your cabinet appointments and handling of affairs in the transition has won over quite a few people who voted against you, and even a good chunk of the people who approve of former President Bush's performance.

I know people, and I know you've met many more, who had been disillusioned by politics until now, and who didn't believe a politician cared about them. You changed this country already, and the hard work is only starting now.

I could go on, and list the obstacles and dangers you'll face. I could remind you of the corrupting influence you'll feel from lobbyists and sufferers of Compulsive Centrist Syndrome. I could warn you against over obsessing over polls. I could remind you of promises you made to the nation and to your supporters. I could remind you of promises unspoken yet heard loudly by the millions of volunteers and small donors.

Instead, I'll beg a small favor and couch it as a small bit of advice.

Please, Mr. President, don't fuck this up.

Sincerely,
Joshua Rosenau

The latest polls are interesting. Locally we have Ashwin Madia in a statistical dead heat so if you are in Minnesota Congresstional District 3 it is NOW TIME to either volunteer or kick in a few bucks. Madia has an excellent chance of taking this seat away from the Republicans. The Minnesota…
Words of wisdom are pouring from the pages of America's punditocracy, and many embrace a common theme: dare to be bold, Mr. President-elect. From E. J. Dionne of the Washington Post: The president-elect is hearing that his greatest mistake would be something called "overreach." Democrats in…
At the moment, this is a nail biter. There is a theory that a strong showing by one party at the top of the ticket brings along those lower down. However, that theory does not apply this year for several reasons. I think it works better for Republicans than for Democrats, for many the top of the…
