Hooray, I have evidence that at least one person didn't fall asleep at my GECCO keynote: here's a summary. He even managed to pay attention right up to the dramatic conclusion, which I usually keep a secret, but now the beans have been spilled. Wait…the biology-oriented keynote at last year's GECCO…
Jason over on EvolutionBlog has some interesting commentary regarding Greg Easterbrook and string theory. Like Jason, I find Easterbrook to be tiresome and a less-than-worthy commentator on topics scientific. I had written my own frisking of Easterbrook with respect to Richard Dawkins on a previous…
Paul Nelson has deigned to write a two-part essay on "Ontogenetic Depth", his sciencey made-up term for a metric that he claims makes evolution essentially impossible. We've been wrangling over this for a long time — he and Marcus Ross introduced this in a poster at the Developmental Biology…
A month ago Larry Moran made reference to Fern Elsdon Baker's new book, The Selfish Genius: How Richard Dawkins Rewrote Darwin's Legacy. Moran was a bit disappointed by the previews, his pet hobby-horse being the revolutionary impact of the neutral theory of molecular evolution, while Elsdon-…

But adults can digest milk, perhaps not all, but many, so what is the issue?

I'll just go have a chocolate milk now ;)

Soren, around an hour into the debate, the discussion turns to what drives evolution in humans at present. Lactose intolerance is discussed in this context(and it turns out that milk makes no difference to evolutionary success now).

As you say, there are some adults who can digest milk and some who cannot. (The reason for lactose intolerance is attributed to recent history of humans where some communities depended on cattle milk and some did not.)

Enjoy your drink.
