Book podcasts

Two book podcasts I listen to regularly.

CBC Writers & Company
Eleanor Wachtel is probably the finest interviewer of writers out there. Give a listen to her recent interviews. In one of the episodes, Orhan Pamuk is interviewed and what he said about V S Naipaul is still on my mind. Naipaul, Pamuk says, sought the center of colonizers to understand his own place while he (Pamuk) does not feel the need to go out of Turkey (Pamuk rarely goes out of Istanbul) since Turkey was never colonized. In another episode, Arthur C Clarke is interviewed. Mind filling.

World Book Club
Another podcast that is a great place to spend your time.

I had been utterly unengaged with with TV about the time that I met this particular cute girl, and she told me that she love the West Wing and watched it every week. There was, if I recall correctly, one more episode showing in the penultimate season, and we watched it together. I liked it. We…
The series of interviews with some of the participants of the 2008 Science Blogging Conference was quite popular, so I decided to do the same thing again this year, posting interviews with some of the people who attended ScienceOnline'09 back in January. Today, I asked Betul Kacar of the Counter…
Yesterday, I had an interesting discussion on Twitter with @jason_pontin (and a couple of others chimed in, e.g., @TomLevenson and @scootsmoon) about the role of quotes in journalism. Specifically, about the importance of providing a brief quote from sources interviewed for a piece. The difference…
