Limping Into 2007

Happy New Year to everyone, and long overdue holiday greetings and all that to all the Zuskateers out there. I didn't intend to be away from the blog for so long, but life has interfered. Same old story: migraines, illness, family health issues. A wicked cold before Christmas that just wouldn't go away...though, you know, when I have a head cold, I don't get migraines. Ever. Anybody else out there experience the same phenomenon? When I suffer from allergies I still get migraines, but not when I have headcolds. Anyway, once the cold was gone the migraines came back. Then mom got sick, and went in the hospital; now she's home, and needs someone with her. That would be me, migraines and all. None of any of this is conducive to blogging.

So, it's not a gung-ho start to 2007. My new year's wish for all the Zuskateers is that you are beginning the year in good health and happiness.

See you around...sometime soon.

Some of you may know that a publisher contacted me last year about turning a piece of short fiction I'd written from an adult perspective into a young adult novel. There are several reasons I wanted to do this - the first is that in many ways, the young adult fiction market is much more vital than…
...on a sticky, sweaty afternoon in July, I received a call from the head of homefinding from my local county social services agency.  These are the folks whose job it is to find homes for kids who come into foster care.  A two-day old newborn boy was being removed from the hospital, because of…
I've been checking in on people's happiness quotients, and I have many things to report. Mostly good, so if you are looking for trouble or just feeling misanthropic, don't go below the fold. Let me start with my friend elle (that is her secret code name). She has been living on the South Pole…

Let's hope this is just an instance of getting some of the health-related crud out of the way at the start of the year to free up the rest for other things. (And I'm really hoping you'll be good to go for SBC 2007 in a couple weeks!)

so sorry you've been indisposed. in case you haven't seen the article below in 'inside higher ed', it's interesting, as are the comments -- which are almost coherent. almost a discussion. or something. about gender and the blogosphere.
