The two grant recipients are FC Hammond One Middle School in Alexandria, VA and Stafford Middle School in Stafford, VA. Fifty middle school students from each school will serve as cub reporters for the day, covering the Festival and creating content for EE Times Group's new Innovation Generation (IGEN) website for students. EE Times Group partnered with Digi-Key to create the IGEN website, which launches in mid-October in conjunction with the Festival.
The two middle schools were selected for the Student Reporter program based on their application for a transportation grant sponsored by EE Times Group. In addition to their activities at the Festival, students will be taking what they learn about at the event and reporting back to their peers through special multi-media presentations that will be posted on the IGEN site. The program is designed to provide middle schools an opportunity to work closely with professional journalists and photographers, apply their language and writing skills in reporting on technology, and learn about online publishing tools.
EE Times Group will be in booth #1112 at the Festival, located on Wilson Plaza (outside the Ronald Reagan Building on 1301 Pennsylvania Ave, Washington, D.C.). In addition to functioning as a press office for student reporters, the booth will feature the "iPod Autopsy" exhibit, which gives budding engineers and scientists the opportunity to take a peek inside some popular consumer electronic devices such as MP3 players to learn more about how they work and the role that professional engineers play in designing and selecting components for them. EE Times Group is partnering with iFixit and UBM TechInsights to showcase the technology autopsies.
"Among 30 developed countries, the United States ranks 25th in math and 21st in science. The United States is in danger of losing its position as the world's primary engine of technology innovation. We at EE Times Group believe it is imperative that we help budding engineers and scientists connect with the world of technology and inspire them to pursue careers in science and technology," said Paul Miller, CEO, EE Times Group. "In conjunction with our partners, Digi-Key, iFixit and UBM TechInsights, we are thrilled to offer students a medium to deliver the news from the festival as well as a peek 'under the hood' of popular technology. We look forward to inspiring the next generation to create incredible innovations."
EE Times Group will participate at the USA Science & Engineering Festival with more than 1,000 other exhibitors in aerospace, green energy, medicine, biotechnology, climatology, robotics, sustainability, nanotechnology, botany, neuroscience, genetics, paleontology, psychology, sociology and a broad array of other scientific disciplines.
