Societies Participate in USA Science & Engineering Festival

Thanks Soil Science Society of America for presenting at the Expo. Here is information for their booth.

ASA, CSSA, and SSSA will each have a booth at the Expo, with fun activities for kids and kids-at-heart

The American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, and Soil Science Society of America (ASA, CSSA, and SSSA) are proud to be Official Partners of the inaugural USA Science & Engineering Festival. The Festival, which will be the country's first national science festival, is a collaboration of over 500 of the country's leading science and engineering organizations and aims to reignite the interest of our nation's youth in the sciences.

The culmination of the Festival will be a two-day Expo on the National Mall in Washington, DC, October 23-24, 2010, which will give children, teens and adults the opportunity to explore all facets of science & engineering through hundreds of fun, hands-on activities. There will also be 50 satellite events in 20 states throughout the month of October and during Expo weekend - the weekend that hundreds of thousands of people celebrate science on the National Mall. And, the Expo will feature 500 exhibits of science/engineering organizations and companies, 1500 hands-on activities and 75 stage shows.

ASA, CSSA, and SSSA will each have a booth at the Expo, with fun activities for kids and kids-at-heart to participate in. If you are in the DC area during the weekend of October 23-24, 2010, be sure to stop by, participate and receive fun give-aways. Booth locations are:

ASA - Booth Number 115

CSSA - Booth Number 113

SSSA - Booth Number 111

Activities - the activities for each of the booths have been geared to a variety of ages. ASA will have a variety of plants, seeds, and consumer products made from different crops - kids will try to match them up - helping to illustrate the field to fork concept. CSSA will have plants and seeds and we'll be asking a variety of different questions. SSSA will have a "spinner wheel" and kids will be asked a question depending on which section of the wheel they land on. All will be "helped out" so they get a correct answer. Give-aways are: ASA - seed packets, CSSA - "mood" pencils (they change colors when you hold them, SSSA - ruler that kids can color on.

All three of the Society booths will be located by the US Capitol reflecting pool, section NM-1, tent 101. You can also search for booths by subject, track, keyword, or organization name.

The ASA K-12 Committee, CSSA K-12 Committee, and SSSA K-12 Committee have developed materials for each of their booths. Members and students from our undergraduate SASES clubs will help staff the booths and interact with festival goers.
