So I surmise from a half-heard radio report this morning. On my way into town today I heard part of a story where Bush was said to have stated (I'm paraphrasing, from memory) taxpayers should not have to support the destruction of human life.
I can only assume this was a comment in reference to the Iraq War. What a remarkable reversal of policy! Does he now support ending bombings? Why isn't everyone talking about this?

He again insists on ending the Iraq War, or, again, so I surmise from this quote half-heard on the radio this morning:
"Destroying human life to save human life is just not ethical."
I always suspected he didn't read our blog. Maybe he didn't check the RSS feeds he signed up for, or maybe he…
In 1999, during my intern year, Hurricane Mitch struck Central America. As stated below, I wanted to become involved. The program director of my residency was kind enough to view this as a worthwhile educational experience. This is my diary from the trip.

I was sitting in my office around 7:45 AM yesterday morning, going through my messages and mail in preparation for a long day of animal protocol and grant writing interspersed with meetings, the radio playing in the background. It was Curtis and Kuby, the usual talking heads show with a…
As the comments and correspondence about my PTSD story and posts accrue, I've been pondering ways to pull out some of the most interesting, powerful, and affecting. I finally decided to just start posting some, sometimes with commentary, sometimes without. This is a story of many different colors…
Ahhh, the wonder of cognitive dissonance, and the amazing stories we tell ourselves to hide from the consequences of our decisions.
Imagine what we might do if we directed the effort we expend on high-maintenance belief systems toward functioning communities...
Wild guess here: Bush may have been referring to the support of stem cell research (i.e. stem cell destruction = destroying "human life").
Sorry if that ruined any hope about seeing an end to the War in Iraq.
Kill all the stem cells, don't let them live on.
And kill the troops. Kill the insurgents. Kill the death squads. Kill the women and children. Kill the war victims. Kill the civilians -- hurry, quick, before millions more escape into exile.

Sometimes it seems intentional irony is harder to pull off successfully than the random, unrehearsed hypocrisy of Pres. W. Decider, et al.
(just an observation from the ironic observers' unemployment line)
