That's Canadian candidates folks. Anyway, it would go something like this:
STEPHEN HARPER: Voting for a harpist would be cool. I mean, I'm no classical musician, but that Stephen Harper seems downright magical on the harp - a real virtuoso. His fingers just seem to glide over the strings. His technique and speed are unmatched, and his concentration, you can see it in his eyes. It's like he's Eddie Van Halen, but on the harp, and with a sweater vest I guess.
More importantly, if you're a canadian reader, I'd love to hear your opinion of him. Better yet, leave that opinion here, so that our students can hear you out.
(Next up: Stéphane Dion)

The Canadian Press has this story about Canadian scientists who have written an open letter calling on the Canadian voter to consider climate change in next week's federal election. When will their American colleagues follow suit?
Here's the opening to the letter:
We have been disturbed by what we…
The debate? Didn't watch it. I'm keeping my "not watching the debates this year" record spotless. Not because I don't want to keep myself informed but because modern TV debate formats don't let anyone do anything but go for the best soundbites, zingers, and gotchas. That said I'll probably read…
Continuing with the tradition from last two years, I will occasionally post interviews with some of the participants of the ScienceOnline2010 conference that was held in the Research Triangle Park, NC back in January. See all the interviews in this series here. You can check out previous years'…
If you go by physics-related stories in the mass media, you'd probably get the impression that about 90% of physicists work at the Large Hadron Collider or some other big accelerator lab. The other 10% would be dominated by people working on foundational questions in quantum mechanics-- Bell tests…
Generally I'm not a fan. I'll be voting Green in October.
That said, some of Harper's foreign policies and speeches have been pretty decent. He's pulled out of that UN Human Rights conference a little while ago, since it appeared it would be an Israel-bashing meeting instead of anything productive. I also like that he's effectively leaving the pro-choice/pro-life arguments out of the campaign.
I suppose I am a little surprised at how much I agreed with him, here and there, but I shudder to think at the surprise we'd see if Harper had a majority. And his shots at keeping May out of the debate was just cheap.
Speaking as a former Liberal (I left the LPC after the way they treated Chretien) I can honestly state that I am very impressed with Harper and will certainly be voting for him. The LPC has deteriorated severely the last few years under Dion's leadership and will not be doing well this election as can be plainly evidenced by the fact that now we see Bobby R. warming up the crowds first and then Dion speaks with no mention of their screwy idea regarding taxing carbon this is a sure sign that a campaign has just gone off the tracks or more appropriately the lights have gone out in the cabin of this plane!
