Books, Belated and Forthcoming

So I know that some contributors and book giveaway winners are still waiting for their copy of _Making Home_ and I offer you profuse apologies.  When I was out of town and a friend really wanted to sell copies at an event, Eric gave her some books.  Actually, all the books.  He didn't realize there weren't more.  In the meantime, she didn't sell all of them but for reasons involving complicated personal things hasn't been able to get them back to me.  They will re-arrive this weekend, and go out in the mail early next week.  Again, apologies for keeping you waiting.

As a form of contrition, I offer another book giveway.  A kind reader has donated three volumes of the Hesperian Foundation's wonderful books on medical care in crisis, isolated or other situations where there is no formal care available, and I am giving all three away in a drawing.  I will give away one copy each of _Where There Is No Doctor_ , _Where There is No Dentist_ and _Where Women Have No Doctor_ to three lucky winners.  Post your name below and list them in order of preference (you don't need to list all three if you have one or don't want one or two), and my children will draw names out of a hat.

Also, just to confirm what is being passed around as rumor, yes, I am writing a fifth book right now - it will come out about a year from now, and is called _Green Sex: .....And Love, Friendship, Marriage, Family, Gender and Reproduction in an Ecologically Constrained World_.  I admit, I'm having a great time writing it (and I had the best time filling out the marketing questions..."Who do you think this book will appeal to...Ummm...folks who like sex?)  So there is more coming, if you can take it - including a bunch of books by mail.

So I somehow forgot to mention when I went on maternity leave and promised to post on Thursdays that I meant I would start this Thursday, since I was on vacation last week.  Sorry 'bout that.  I will shamelessly blame the baby and sleep deprivation again. We spent much of last week visiting family…
I don't think Eric and my eyes have ever met in one of those soppy, romantic looks couples give each other over a puddle of vomit before.  Yesterday, however, they did. We've been battling a nasty, slow moving stomach virus at our house (four down, four still to go ;-P), and one of the children…
Last Friday afternoon my mother and step-mother came to visit.  My mother had surgery on her foot back in the summer and has had a long, slow recovery, and is only now able to travel and drive, so this was the first visit in nearly six months.  As we sat around the table, we joked that it would be…
The minute I announced my pregnancy with Simon, the first question most people asked me was "Oh, are you trying for a girl?"  I admit, the question annoyed me.  The implication seemed to be that everyone dreams of the perfect matched set, one boy and one girl.  In fact, I always had a strong…
