The Weather Service has announced a severe storm warning for coastal areas as hurricane Gordon is expected to hit land friday morning.
Not, not the Gulf, or the Virginia shore: England, and Wales and Ireland.
Strong winds, gusting to 80 mph, heave rain and coastal flooding are predicted; with some damage and severe morning commuter disruption expected.
Yes, there have been hurricanes, yes they've "recurved" back out to sea.
Not they don't just stop. They hit somewhere in Europe, although the passage over cool water typically reduces their strength so sustained hurricane force winds are rare (happens, there was the great south England hurricane of 1987 - destroyed large areas of old forest, and I recall hurricane force storm getting to Iceland in the late autumn sometime around 1975+/-).
The named tropical storm count is actually respectably high, but they've been forming off Africa zooming west and then curving out around Bermuda, and then pounding the Iberian peninsula or the British isles as autumn storms.

Americans may even notice. Apparently there is some soft of golf tournament that will be affected....
Well, from my vantage point in Bath, UK, I can confirm that it is raining cats and dogs, mostly because I got soaked going to the shops..
Can I blame America for sending us Hurricanes?
