iPod iChing - bald black holes

Happy friday the 13th!
We ask the Mighty iPod a more serious question for the occasion:

Oh, Mighty iPod - are there gauge fields, hidden in the Standard Model, which show up as extra hair on astrophysical black holes, and could we see evidence for this in measurements of multipole moments during ring down measured with gravitational radiation?

Whoosh goes the randomizer.
Whoosh.

  • The Covering: Carnival of the Animals: Elephant - Peter and the Wolf
  • The Crossing: My Feelings - Twin Sisters
  • The Crown: Iris - Goo Goo Dolls
  • The Root: Thing Called Love - Bonnie Raitt
  • The Past: Everywhere - Billy Bragg
  • The Future: Inbetween Days - Cure(cover?)
  • The Questioner: Macy's Day Parade - Green Day
  • The House: Veronica - Elvis Costello
  • The Inside: Le Bon Roi Dagobert - Sien Diels
  • The Outcome: Scene (Moderato): Nutcracker - Tchaikovsky

Hm, Covering, Crossing and Crown are on topic.
The Past is a bit of a downer - reflecting our Numerical Relativity struggles maybe?
Questioner is a bit ambivalent. Oh dear.

The House gets it: "Is it all in that pretty little head of yours?
What goes on in that place in the dark?"

But the Future seems pretty conclusive: "And I know I was wrong
When I said it was true
That it couldn't be me and be her
Inbetween without you
Without you"

Not sure how Good King Dagobert and St Eloi fit in here, unless something interesting is going on in Paris, France that is relevant ;-)

As always, the Key as explained by Sean

Iris

And I'd give up forever to touch you,
'Cause I know that you feel me some how.
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be,
And I don't want to go home right now.

And all I can taste is this moment,
And all I can breathe is your life,
And sooner or later it's over,
I just dont want to miss you tonight.

And I dont want the world to see me,
'Cause I dont think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.

And you cant fight the tears that ain't coming,
Or the moment of the truth in your lies.
When everything feels like the movies,
Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive.

And I dont want the world to see me,
'Cause I dont think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.

And I dont want the world to see me,
'Cause I dont think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.

And I dont want the world to see me,
'Cause I dont think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.
I just want you to know who I am.
I just want you to know who I am.
I just want you to know who I am..

Ah, you see, the ambivalence reflects the fact that you asked the wrong question ... EMRIs are likely to provide much more precise info on the multipoles; ringdowns probably won't disagree with standard BH unless the violation is quite gross.

;)

(Actually, I'm not sure anyone has actually computed the ringdown spectrum for BHs with the "wrong" multipoles, only for various alternative compact objects whose strong field structure is entirely different. Paging Dr. Berti ...)
