Read it and weep

We've had other wars besides Iraq and Afghanstan djinned up or whipped on by our "free press." Sometimes it's good to remember that "the power of the press" also meant the power of the person who owned the printing press.
A trite phenomenon is taking place in a church in Bakersfield:
Read it and weep.
Astroprof ponders the imponderable. Semester is clearly in full swing out there... Read it and weep.

Which bit should we weep about first?

Well, first of all their name is really the Astronomy and Astrophysics Advisory Committee (there's that extra "A" in there, ya know?) Secondly, it isn't an NSF committee. The meeting is held at NSF, but the committee is organized by NSF, NASA, and DOE, and reports to all of them, including Congress. Oh, thirdly, their meeting report hasn't been posted yet, but one can weep at the presentations given.

To wit, NSF astronomy and NASA astrophysics are broke. As in, cashless. It is a pity to hear such presentations about inspiring projects that are either broke or unaffordable. Must be hard to keep a straight face.
