EuroTrip '08 - Belgrade, Mom's cooking is the best in the world

Nothing better than coming back home after a long time (13 years since my last visit), seeing my family and eating Mom's food:

The best chocolate/walnut torte in the world. It takes about two days to fix and is very rich. I had it every birthday when I was a kid, and also every time when I cam back home from travels. This time included:

Cannot visit Belgrade without having a chocolate banana....

A couple of times over the past few years I tried to find if there was a Serbian restaurant in New York City, but Google could not find one. So, I gave up looking and assumed there wasn't one. And that was true - until recently. Last night at the meetup, Nikola Trbovic told me there is one now -…
Or, to tell the traditional Passover joke: A Jewish physicist in the UK was about to get knighted by the Queen. There was a long line of recepients waiting for the ceremony and they were all instructed what to say/chant once they come to face the Queen. The physicist kept silently practicing the…
Mother's Day is drawing to a close. I've spent a better part of the day, appropriately, mothering. While being showered with cards and kisses from my six-year-old son, I've had a chance to reflect a bit on the subject of motherhood. (Being a mom is a busy job--I'm just now getting a chance to…
I found a fun meme via Rev. BigDumbChimp, involving food. I'm a sucker for anything involving eating. Venison: Nope. Nettle tea: yes. Didn't like it. Huevos rancheros: Yes, yummy. Steak tartare: nope. Crocodile: Yup. Mediocre. Not a bad flavor, but it had a nasty texture. Black…

There *really* is no place like home. I'm happy you got to go, and jealous. I want to go home too. I'm so homesick!
