We three had somehow wound our way down into the canyon without experiencing any really steep slopes, but having walked for several miles in the sandy dry riverbed, Trusted Companion, Young One, and I were now looking rather hopelessly at unsafe-to-climb cliffs on both sides, covered with imposing…
As promised in the last catch-up post, a set of pictures less devoted to cute-kid shots. 213/366: Zone Defense The superhero-themed "zones" of our house, as defined by the Pip. The Pip has been making one of his preschool teachers draw superheroes for him. At some point, he cut these out with…
A while back, I went down to Vroman's Nose in Middleburgh to go for a hike, and found a sign saying that peregrine falcons are known to nest on the cliffs. Since the peregrine falcon is SteelyKid's absolute favorite bird, and the subject of her school research project, this seemed like a good…
One of my Christmas gifts this year was an external flash unit for my DSLR, replacing one that broke a while back. Given that the camera has a built-in flash, you might wonder why I need this extra bulky gadget, so to answer that question, here's a composite of five pictures I took today:…

As we can see, sea levels have not risen. It has snowed in Texas for the first time in 83 years, (so media tells us) and I wait for Hanrahan to again repeat his refrainW'all be roooned!

Louis

your inability to stop behave civilly even for a single day is truly extraordianry.

If you have so much time and energy to spare, why don't you stop by the "worst argument ever" thread and explain how the Chinese medieval measurements of the length of the day match your bizarre theories.
Your comment about it snowing in Texas (if it was meant seriously) reveals that you have failed to read or failed to comprehend most of the literature on global warming which predicts that a more energetic anf turbulent atmosphere will result in more extreme weather events of all sorts.

Adding to Ian's comments, the snowing in Texas remark also reflects at least 2 other common screw-ups of global warming skeptics - 1) chronic conflation of local weather events and/or trends with global climate trends, and 2) a lack of understanding of the fact that increasing temperatures imply an increasing moisture carrying capacity of the lower atmosphere (simple application of Boyle's Law and partial pressures), and therefore, of increased precipitation events - exactly as the IPCC and the NAS have been repeating with the frequency of a chiming clock for years now.

Back to the basic theme of this post (which Louis appears to have accidently posted on rather than the "worser" one), nice pictures Tim. Merry Christmas, and a very happy and productive New Year, stemming the never-ending tide of innumerates and Right-Wing illiterates.

Merry Xmas Tim! Hope it is a great new year for you too.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
