For my San Bernardino readers, I will be flying out to California tomorrow to deliever one of the keynote talks at the big MAA meeting. The talk will be at CSU San Bernardino at 9:00 am on Saturday morning. Nine am on a Saturday? They didn't mention that when they invited me!
The title of my talk is -- surprise! -- the Monty Hall Problem, Reconsidered. Should be a good time. See you when I return!

This post is part of a series documenting Professor Steve Steve's recent visit to Philadelphia for the Drosophila Research Conference (aka, the Fly Meeting).
Professor Steve Steve had a wild Saturday night. He was quite happy to have met leaders in the fields of evo-devo, population genetics, and…
The trip to California went well. Suspiciously well, in fact, to the point where, even though I am now back home, I am still waiting for something to go wrong.
I first became suspicious during the two-hour drive over to Dulles Airport. There was no traffic. How odd. My rule of thumb when flying…
The mild nausea I mentioned earlier? Gone now, it seems to have vanished as soon as I disposed of the wretched rag Answers in Genesis sent me. It's a good thing, too, because I have a frantic weekend ahead of me.
Today and tomorrow, I'm pounding the keyboard to prepare a couple of talks. At least…
I think I'm cursed. Or I have bad luck. Or conference organizers think I'm a morning person. Alright, so maybe I really am a morning person. But that's besides the point. Because it sucks to give a talk on a Saturday morning. Saturday mornings should be reserved for things like Belgian waffles,…
On the bright side, 9am there is 12noon here, so you still can sleep in a little bit. :)
If you have the time, take a drive up the hillside to Rim of the World and Lake Arrowhead. Absolutely beautiful up there; an incredible contrast to the desert valley and city below. Only takes about 30-45 minutes to get up there (about 6,000 feet up).
Wow,
I am totally bummed (CSUSB is where I teach)! I would be there if I could, but I'll be coaching my daughter's soccer game at the time. Oh well, I hope it goes well! It is a beautiful campus, and I agree with Joe, you should go up to the mountains if you have a chance!
Thanks for the suggestions. Alas, it is going to be a really fast trip. Fly in on Friday, math all day on Saturday, then fly home on Sunday.
Paul, good luck to your daughter in the big game. To play at that hour they must take soccer pretty seriously!
Have a good trip. keep up the good work I enjoy this website very much.
Great tips.Thanks a lot.

Incidentally, we were discussing the Monty Hall problem in my math class the other day, and because I read this site I was able to participate in a way that I haven't even before in a math class.
Maybe, just maybe, I won't fail this time.
