If I remember correctly, there have been nature documentaries (produced by PBS, if I remember right) where some of the bonobo footage was cut down on the aired version because it was just too much for the censors to handle.
I think it is hilarious. Bonobo sex is seen as embarassing because they are far too human-like for the comfort of, mostly, the very people who don't think we were ever related to them.
When writing the Rough Guide to Evolution I dared the editor to allow me to use this image of "bonobo porn" from the Corbis website, but sadly he refused!
And bonobos are even known to engage in homosexual behaviour. There's no way the sponsors will go for that.

No problem showing chimpanzee behavior - since they are often overtly violent, or at least agressive
chimps - make war, not love.
