NEW U2 VIDEO "WINDOW IN THE SKIES" IS INSTANT CLASSIC

Framing U2: This goosebump-inducing masterpiece of a nostalgia trip is careful to avoid the backlash that followed their late-80s concert film _Rattle and Hum_ in which various cover songs and on-stage comments were interpreted as U2 attempting to put themselves on the same level as a handful of late greats. This time, Bono and Edge are glimpsed as audience members, not performers of equal weight (they leave it to the world to put them in that category).

This sounds like one of several songs that Bono wrote for his wife (see "The Sweetest Thing") but that translate to universal themes. Truly an instant classic with a video that aptly takes advantage of our collective love for these performers.

Uh, yeah. Usually I get goosebumps just before I puke. "Instant classic" usually means one thing: derivative as all hell. And it isn't "hip" to be such an utter conformist.

I remember when U2 started out, in the post-punk days when they were nothing but a guitar and a handful of Dippity-do in a sea of better bands. They sucked then; they suck now; they will always suck.

Paul Hewson is a sanctimonious, self-aggrandizing horse's ass, and their emphasis on "reform" does absolutely nothing to change the fact that money talks -- if they weren't rich, nobody would be listening. Want to really change things, Bono? Get the hell out of the spotlight and let some young unknown have a chance.
