Using Science to Frame Quackery?

Things to notice in this video:

  • The scientific sounding languge.
  • The cool 3D graphics
  • The guy bloating up because he has not eaten his SKRMs yet. Then he eats the SKRMs and gets better.

I just posted an entry on Darwin's status as a scientist, and wanted to tag on this brief run-down on some biography. (Although I'll say right off that I'm *not* a historical Darwin scholar, and a lot of brilliant people are.) First, Darwin is the most biographed scientist. Second, that means…
And, is that necessarily a bad thing? Sometimes I feel like I'm watching Ubuntu running quickly towards a big cliff. Recently, it was hinted/announced that Gnome would be dropped as Ubuntu's default desktop, and x.org dropped as the x server. The mint Distro has forked itself to produce a pure…
Okay, I knew that planets are big, intellectually, but a well-done graphic is worth a thousand words, and a pretty HD video is even better. Brad Goodspeed made this video to suggest what other planets would look like, if they orbited Earth at the same distance as the Moon does. I've embedded it,…
A dozen or so years ago, or maybe more, I was heading up the communications section of The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne, when I employed a young biology graduate as a graphics guy to do medical graphics. This he did for a while, until he started playing with…

Sounds like someone is trying to sell some useless vitamins. Dietary signals translated by Kinases? Er... no. That would be chemicals, compounds, and proteins broken down by kinases. SKRS sounds like a load a bullarky. They're just using a lot of crazy words and phrases that are somewhat scientific and they're using them to sell their garbage. It's probably just green tomato seed extract (nicotine) and probably some caffeine.

Watch it with the sound off; it then tells you that eating SKRMs makes your arms skinny and makes you run real slow. Not exactly Steve Austin material.

Well, I tried pointing the Google at SKRM, and I got this guy.
Woo!
